Anguilla, a British overseas territory in the Eastern Caribbean, comprises a small main island and several offshore islets. The name Anguilla is an anglicised or latinate form of earlier Spanish anguila, French anguille, or Italian anguilla, all meaning "eel" in reference to the island's shape. For similar reasons, it was formerly known as Snake or Snake Island.
The island is made of limestone, providing many caves. Two of the most impressive being are ''The Big Springs'' located in Island Harbour and ''The Fountain'' located in Shoal Bay. Anguilla also has many attractive coral reefs which provides habitats for a vast array of tropical fish and marine wildlife. This motivates individuals to take part in snorkeling.
